2nd Doctoral Seminar in IIB (Institute of Islamic Banking)

IIB continues to organize doctoral seminars on regular basis after every two weeks. In this regard, the second seminar was held on Friday, November 24, 2017. ASAD ILYAS (PhD Batch #2) presented his PhD thesis research proposal on the topic titled “THE MANAGEMENT OF SHARIAH RISK IN ISLAMIC BANKING INSTITUTIONS: THE CASE OF PAKISTAN”. Mr. Asad started his presentation with the introduction of Islamic Banking sector and recent changes in this sector. He explained that several factors are responsible for this changed scenario. These factors include increased market instability, financial innovations, increased competition and Regulatory environment. He further elaborated objectives of his research that includes identification of the Shariah risks associated with Islamic Banking Institutions and development of a rating matrix for risk criticality for already identified Shariah risks and effectiveness. For practical measures he will formulate a risk management framework that can be adopted by Islamic Financial Institutions to mitigate Shariah Risk. After the completion of his presentation, question-answer session was held. In the end, his proposal was evaluated by faculty members and some suggestions were given to improve his proposal.
